2011 Opel Corsa

GM has just revealed the facelift version 2011 Opel Corsa which is now a bit more powerful and with 13 percent more fuel efficient.
The 2011 Opel Corsa Facelift is also featuring an improved chassis and steering while at the interior the level of comfort was increased.
On the Color Race, Color Edition and Color Wave 2011 Opel Corsa variants the manufacturer offers unique 17 inch wheels and body finishes and a 111 Limited Edition version that will get sold only in Europe is also on its way.
The 2011 Opel Corsa Facelift comes fitted with the standard 1.0-litre 3-cylinder unit that produces 65 HP while the most powerful version has the 1.6-litre OPC engine under the bonnet that is good for 192 HP.

The Opel Corsa continues to offer one of the roomiest and most attractive interiors in its class. The welcoming nature of its cockpit has been given a substantial make-over. The layout of the attractive, user-friendly dashboard has been retained, but the surface treatments - a clever blend of matt and high-gloss materials - have been the subject of noticeable upgrades in quality and appearance.
The variety of available finishes, fabrics, and colors helps to differentiate between the trim levels and also ensures that all customers find the perfect trim to match their wishes. Key features of the interiors are the newly decorated center consoles, with the striking patterns and colors of the instrument panel pads, available in modern color combinations that give the interior a young and fresh character.
High quality begins in the Essentia entry level model, showing a premium Punch fabric quality and a new center stack color matt chrome. In addition to the classic charcoal interior, the Enjoy trim level adds a young fresh look with Steel Blue or is available in Tabasco Orange. The lively, colorful interiors are offset with contrasts in material applications such as pearl white on the console, the steering wheel and around the door handles. The colors and instrument panel patterns created through a two-tone effect add harmony to the overall appearance of the interior. The Sport execution shows a center stack held in elegant Japan Black with galvanized air vent decorations. The Cosmo has a new grey high gloss center stack bezel with a contrasting wing insert in the instrument panel, plus beautiful embossed seat fabric to give it a very elegant and upscale feel.
The new "Touch & Connect" infotainment system is a multi-media all-round unit with navigation system that is universally connectible and easy to use. Its many upscale features include dynamic navigation, Aux-in and USB and Bluetooth connectivity. The navigation is menu-driven via a touch screen.

The Opel Corsas new looks build on the strong foundation of its successful design. It still retains its dynamic, friendly character, but now introduces a bold, sporty face in line with Opels new design language.
The sporty execution is achieved by re-proportioning the upper and lower grilles. The lower grille has become wider and taller, thus visually widening the car. A high degree of attention has been paid to the three-dimensional mesh of the upper grille, which reminds one of the Astra and replaces the previous horizontal bars. The proud, new Opel logo is integrated into a redesigned, larger and sculptured chromed bar, adding to the expressive appearance of the front. Thanks to these changes, the Corsa now has an even more dynamic stance.
Chiseled Opel eagle eyes have been added to the new headlamps along with the typical wing-shaped daylight signature lamp that made its debut in the Insignia and is now featured in all new Opel products. The internals of the lamp have also been refined to create a very jewel-like execution that enhances the sporty look. The new fog lamp units with integrated chrome blade complete the more expressive presence of the Opel Corsas new face. The look is further enhanced with six new alloy wheel designs and a large, redesigned Opel logo on the tailgate. Three new exterior colors are also integrated in the palette: a delicate off-white Guacamole, an eye-catching Grasshopper green and a warm Henna.
The side profile of the new Opel Corsa retains the charm that has already established it as a market favorite. The curved, aerodynamic silhouette is equally attractive in both coupé-like three and family-oriented five-door versions. The expressive front and rear design, the well-defined upswept waistline, and the optimal body-to-wheel relationship all work together to give a sleek, dynamic impression. Just like the radiator grille, the V-shaped tailgate with the trademark center crease and the large emblem carries unmistakable Opel design elements.
The Opel Corsas wide stance and pronounced wheel arches clearly reflect the handling agility and driving fun the bestseller offers.

The powertrain line-up consists of a wide offer of gasoline enginefrom the 1-liter 3 cylinder (48 kW/65 hp ) entry level version to theturbo charged 1.6-liter on the Corsa OPC (141 kW/192 hp). On the dieselside, different versions of the 1.3 and 1.7 CDTI motors offer outputsranging from 55 kW/75 hp to 96 kW/130 hp all with fuel consumptionunder 5 liters per 100 kilometers. The Corsa ecoFLEX 1.3 l CDTI offers exceptionally low CO2 emissions of just 98 g/km for the 3-door variant,99 g/km for the 5-door.
Opel engineers have developed the engines to give greater torque, while at the same time reducing their appetite for fuel and loweringCO2 emissions. All gasoline engines, and the new 1.7 CDTI diesel, comply with Euro 5 emissions standards.
The most popular gasoline powertrains – 1.0, 1.2 and 1.4-liter withmanual and automated Easytronic transmissions – offer combined cyclefuel consumption between just 5.0 and 5.5 l/100 km, and CO2 ratingsfrom 117 to 129 g/km with manual transmission. With an average fuelconsumption of just 5.0 l/100 km and 117 g/km CO2, the Corsa 1.0 is thecleanest of all gasoline-powered entries in its segment. The 1.4 enginecomes in two variants, with 64 kW/87 hp and 74 kW/100 hp and isavailable with full automatic transmission in its most powerfulexecution. The 1.2 and 1.4-liter Twinport engines are now fitted withdouble cam phasing to allow variable valve timing on both inlet andexhaust sides for more efficient breathing.
Other measures that improve fuel consumption for all gasolineengines include a low friction oil pump, remapping of the enginethermostat and a ”shift up” indicator to help the driver change gearfor optimum fuel economy.
The 1.3 CDTI engine is also improved, giving the Corsa ecoFLEX modelexceptionally low CO2 emissions of just 98 g/km for the 3-door variant,99 g/km for the 5-door. The Corsa ecoFLEX is Opel’s lowest emittingcar, yet it is packed with 27 percent more power and 10 percent greaterfuel efficiency. A diesel particulate filter and the “shift up”indicator in the cluster are standard.
The top-of-the-line 1.7 CDTI diesel engine now offers more power andtorque – increased to 96 kW/130 hp and 300 Nm – as well as a ninepercent cut in CO2 emissions and fuel consumption, to 118 g/km and 4.5l/100km.

Range Rover Sport field athlete

The new Range Rover Sport has followed the same diet that his older brother and reduces its weight with respect to the previous version in 420 kilograms. It is now available from 66,000 euros and with engines between 258 and 510 HP.
It is larger than its predecessor, but Land Rover, have been repeated with the new Range Rover Sport what has been done in the last Range Rover: thanks to the intensive use of aluminium in its structure is lowered the weight at 420 pounds compared to the previous model. In addition, this Sport version weighs 100 pounds less, it is 15 cm shorter and lower than a normal Range Rover 5.

The Sport is distinguished from his brother at first sight by a different, much less square line, and that actually transmits dynamism despite being an all-terrain of 4.85 meters long. The windshield has greater inclination and the roof of the car describes a downline from the front to the rear. These features, depending on the brand, made its aerodynamics to improve by 8 percent with respect to its predecessor, which is 6 cm long, 5 wide and almost 18 cm wheelbase.

Design details such as a front fins with air outlet, the double front ventilation grille on the hood, brake calipers Brembo painted red or pillars topped by black color, that make the ceiling seem that it floats over the car, contribute to give this dynamic nature that seeks to brand.
The new Range Sport is already on sale at dealerships, that support orders from a couple of months ago. The first units will be delivered to customers at the end of this month or early August. They are offered four trim levels (S, SE, HSE and Autobiography) to choose from.

The standard equipment is the completeness expected of a car of this kind. Among the optional elements offers almost anything we can imagine: from a simple spare wheel (290 euros) to a team of 23 speakers, by whose price (7.070 euros) sound one could buy a new car.
It has drawn attention in called Connected Car package that allows the driver to check the status of the car via an application installed on the phone. You can also locate the vehicle in case of theft, making an emergency call automatically or other assistance to the Land Rover plant. And for those who cannot be without an Internet connection, there is the option of wi-fi broadband.

Maruti Alto 800 review test drive
Maruti’s new Alto is an even better offering than before. We bring you a detailed road-test review.
OVERVIEW
Since its launch, the new Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 has been – much like the best-seller it’s replacing – rather well received. Although Maruti’s credentials when it comes to making low-cost small cars are impressive, it is not an easy task to replace an all-time best-seller. While the changes have to be substantial, they have to be cost-effective as well. And the carmaker has seemingly done its job well.
The car looks and feels significantly different from the old Alto and it’s priced extremely well too. The base Alto 800 costs Rs 2.44 lakh and the most expensive Alto 800 LXi rings the register at Rs 2.99 lakh. So, does it have what it takes to carry on its extremely successful family tradition?
DESIGN
Maruti has done a commendable job with the new Alto 800’s styling. While every single body panel is new, the car is instantly recognisable as an Alto. The slim grille looks quite sporty, while the large air intake in the bumper along with the high-mounted, petal-shaped headlights look modern – quite similar to the Ford Figo’s.
The prominent crease that runs along the flanks and rises towards the rear adds to the sporty feel, giving the car a tipped-forward stance. But this stylistic element has eaten into the rear glass area, which might make rear seat passengers feel claustrophobic. At the rear, fresh new details like the large multi-element tail-lights and sharply sculpted bumper add some much needed spice. What makes the car look a bit awkward, however, is the massive ground clearance; it just doesn’t sit well with the car’s compact dimensions.
Maruti has deliberately styled the Alto 800 on the conservative side after market feedback suggested that the extrovert styling of the Hyundai Eon was not to the taste of the traditional budget-car buyer. Maruti has clearly played it safe as far as design goes in order to appeal to a wider audience.
While the Alto 800 may be completely new on the outside, under the skin, there are plenty of bits carried over from the outgoing car. The floorpan is similar, the wheelbase is the same and the suspension and brakes are near identical. Also similar are the load points on the chassis and the ‘H’ points (hip points) of the seats. The engine bay is now more compact, and the firewall and dash have been ‘optimised’ to make the cabin more space efficient. The roof is now 15 percent higher for improved headroom. The body structure has been modified to make it stiffer, both in the interest of improved ride and handling, and to qualify it for impending crash test norms. But this hasn’t added too much to the weight. The roof, for example, is made of thinner steel and has corrugations for added rigidity, and the Alto 800 still remains a flyweight. Even the top-end airbag-equipped version tips the scales at just 725kg.
INTERIORS
On the inside, the dashboard is completely new. The curvy design and vibrantly coloured seat fabric are modern and lift the cabin’s overall ambience. The dials look upmarket and are easy to read. But despite these changes, the Alto 800’s cabin still doesn’t have the same air of quality that the Hyundai Eon displays. You sit pretty low in the Alto and due to the low stance of the car, getting in and out is a bit of a chore. The front seat itself is comfortable but lacks enough under-thigh support. Seat bolstering is also not the best and you tend to get thrown around on enthusiastic drives.
Although Maruti has tried to carve out more kneeroom for rear passengers with slim front seats, it’s still cramped and headroom isn’t good either. Storage spaces aren’t abundant but the big cubby and bottle holder ahead of the gearlever is quite innovative and the shelf above the glovebox is pretty useful too. The boot is decent for a compact car though.
For the price, the Alto 800 comes pretty well equipped. On the LXi variant, you get standard stuff like CD/MP3 player, air-conditioning, power steering and front power windows. But there are some glaring omissions, especially basics such as central locking, left rear-view mirror and day-night mirror which even the Nano comes with.
PERFORMANCE
The Alto 800 continues to be powered by the small 796cc, three-cylinder primitive F8D motor, but in this latest avatar, it has been significantly improved. The compression ratio has been bumped up, which also improves performance. Although increase in power over the earlier engine is marginal, torque is a significant 11 percent better.
A new plastic inlet manifold not only lowers the engine weight, but also improves gas flow, and hence, volumetric efficiency. The connecting rods and crankshaft have been significantly lightened as well and new, low-friction piston rings have been used, which in turn increases engine life. There’s also a faster 32-bit processor and this engine is future-proof for BS5 norms too.
The first thing you realise when you set off in traffic is that this motor is much more free-revving than the older one. It makes the Alto feel light and agile to drive. The car’s throttle responses have improved drastically and it pulls well from most engine speeds. The engine is much more flexible and thanks to this, the Alto now feels at home on the highway too. Overtaking is much easier and it needs only a shift or two to accelerate with gusto.
Where the old motor used to feel strained in the mid-range, the now heavily upgraded one feels relaxed and has an adequate reserve of power on tap. However, the motor isn’t perfect. It gets thrummy after 4000rpm, and has an annoying tendency to jerk when negotiating stop/start traffic as the three-cylinder motor doesn’t run smoothly. It also has an unsettled idle that makes the cabin shudder.
Performance figures here are quite impressive. A flat-out sprint to 100kph will take a very impressive 16.92sec, which is a whopping 3.5sec faster than the old engine. Thanks to good top-end performance, it will reach a respectable top speed of 141kph. In-gear acceleration too is much improved. The 20-80kph now takes 13.16sec and 40-100kph takes 22.29sec, which again is much quicker than the old 796cc engine.
HANDLING
Like the engine, the ride and handling have also gone a step in the right direction. Low-speed ride quality is another area where this Maruti showed a plushness you wouldn’t really associate with a budget city runabout. Yes, it does thump over bumps, but the suspension does a good job of softening the jolt. Over bad roads, the Alto feels out of its comfort zone and the ride isn’t as flat as we would like. There’s a fair amount of vertical movement owing to its softly sprung setup. Suspension noise is also pretty well-contained, though road noise gets intrusive as you go faster.
Where the Alto shines the most is in city limits. The car’s compact dimensions, coupled with the light steering, are terrific for parking in tight spots. All-round visibility is good too, making the new Alto an ideal car for our ever-crowded roads. There is a fair bit of body roll when you go fast around a corner, but the car feels safe and in control. However, the light steering doesn’t quite weight up at higher speeds and there’s lots of slack around the straight-ahead position.
In terms of braking, the Alto 800 offers good feel at the pedal and also doesn’t veer much under panic stops.
FUEL EFFICIENCY
On the fuel efficiency front, the Alto with its light kerb weight and efficient engine was always expected to be great, and the new Alto 800 plays true to form. It gave us 13.3kpl in the city and a decent 17.8kpl out on the highway. This gives the Alto 800 a very respectable range of 540km on a full tank.
VERDICT
With the new Alto, Maruti has done justice to its all-time best-seller. The fresh styling, revamped interiors and rehashed engine go towards making it an even more attractive offering than before. The motor has been improved for better fuel efficiency and power. Of course, it has its failings. The cabin is still quite cramped and the quality still fails to match up to rivals like the Hyundai Eon. However, where Maruti has played the masterstroke is with the pricing. At Rs 2.99 lakh for the top-of-the-line LXi variant, the new car is priced at just Rs 3,000 over the older one. And of course, when it comes to the budget hatchback segment, nothing spells popularity like an affordable price tag.

New Premium Hatchbacks for 2013
Mercedes-Benz A-class
Following the recent launch of the B-class, Mercedes will continue its charge down the price ladder with the introduction of the latest A-class hatchback. The new A-class is free from the ‘tall boy’ stance of its predecessors and, in that sense, looks more conventional. However, the new car seems designed for a younger customer base and looks really sporty and aggressive in the flesh. Its cabin is also far sportier and even space is surprisingly good. Like the B-class, the new A is underpinned by Merc’s new front-wheel-drive MFA platform and thanks to some clever engineering, it is really fun to drive. The electric power steering is the only weak link on the dynamics front really. Mercedes will equip the A-class with a 121bhp 1.6-litre turbo petrol and a 1.8-litre diesel, both of which will come mated to seven-speed dual-clutch gearboxes. With prices likely to start from Rs 18 lakh, the A-class will be a stellar entry point to the Mercedes brand.

Volkswagen New Beetle
Bigger and better than the model it replaces, the latest Beetle could be on its way to India in 2013. The retro-chic styling has evolved, the cabin is more spacious and the new underpinnings promise to make it better to drive too. Engine options could include a 158bhp 1.4-litre petrol and even a 138bhp 2.0-litre diesel. That should give the new Beetle enough ammo to take on the Mini Cooper – its only rival in the niche high-end hatchback market. Cute and cheerful as it may be, the new Beetle will cost serious money, with pricing in the region of Rs 25 lakh.

Volkswagen Cross Polo
Mini-SUVs are the next gold rush for manufacturers, and even Volkswagen has plans to enter the segment in December 2013 with the launch of the attractive Polo-based crossover. As is evident in the picture, the Cross Polo looks like a rugged version of the standard Polo hatch, and much of its appeal stems from the plastic cladding on the lower portion of the bumpers and doors, its smartly finished roof rails and, of course, those 17-inch wheels. On the inside, different upholstery will distinguish this car from the standard Polo. The Cross Polo will be the first VW product to get the new, made-for-India 1.5-litre diesel engine. A 1.2-litre TSI turbo-petrol mated to a seven-speed DSG auto could be an option as well. A Rs 6-8 lakh price-tag seems realistic for this crossover.
