Famous Italian design house Pininfarina is paying tribute to its former chairman, Sergio Pininfarina, who passed away last July, with a new concept car that bears his name and which it says, "renews the spirit and values" obtained under his leadership "projecting them into the future".

The Pinifarina Sergio is a barchetta-style concept study built on top of the Ferrari 458 Spider underpinnings, with both the wheelbase and the tracks remaining intact.

Placed behind the driver in a mid-rear-position, is the 458 Spiders 562hp (570PS) 4.5-liter V8 coupled to a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox that directs power to the rear axle.

To compensate for the loss of the windshield, Pininfarinas designers inserted a wing in the front bumper to improve aerodynamics, while a roll-bar with a fixed spoiler protects occupants and increases the down force on the rear axle.

Pininfarina says the bodys torsion stiffness exceeds that of the original spider, thanks to the reduction in the size of the doors, which now rotate in a 45-degree angle, and due to weight savings of about 150 kg (331 pounds) over the Ferrari model.

The Italian coach-builder quotes a zero to 100km/h (62mph) sprint time of under 3.4 seconds, and a top speed of around 320km/h (199mph).

It’s worth noting that Pininfarina states that it places the Sergio "firmly in the tradition of the great Pininfarina one-offs specifically designed for "special" clients, which makes it a real car, not just a show car". What this means, is that if someone is interested, Pininfarina can build the car.

We dont know for how long Cadillac plans to continue production of the current CTS as were nearing closer and closer to the presentation of the new generation model, but for now, the wreath and crest brand has prepared two limited edition versions of the high-performance 556hp CTS-V series, named Silver Frost and Stealth Blue (the latter is offered on the CTS coupe as well).

Well begin with the Silver Frost Edition that will be a special run of 100 CTS-V Coupes available through select Cadillac dealers in the States beginning in March. The Detroit brand says it achieved the hue by applying a “30-gloss” clear coat to the paint, as opposed to the “80-gloss” found in standard paint finishes.

"The paint will still emit a low sparkle when certain lights reflect off it, but the finish will be distinctly matte," said Cadillac in a statement.

Buyers should be aware that this paint finish comes with special cleaning instructions, and more specifically, Cadillac states that the car should be hand washed only.

Available options on this model include yellow or red Brembo brake calipers, high polished or satin graphite wheels, and suede-covered steering wheel and shift knob.

The second special edition is the limited production run Stealth Blue with a metallic finish that will be available on all CTS-V models, including the coupe, sedan and Wagon, plus the regular CTS Coupe from March.

In addition, the CTS coupe, V coupe and sedan models, will also offer an optional “Twilight Blue” leather interior package that matches the blue-grey exterior shade.

“Some color hues, such and blues, greys and reds easily identify with performance and velocity,” said Michelle Killen, lead creative designer for exterior paints. “Both Stealth Blue and Silver Frost are very expressive but still true to the luxury and exclusivity that a Cadillac represents, which was a driving factor in the creation of the color.”

After yesterdays announcement on the changes for the 2012 SRX, Cadillac has now put a price on its updated crossover model, a key highlight of which is the new 308-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine that replaces the current versions 265HP six-cylinder unit.

The 2012 SRX goes on sale in August carrying a standard price of $36,060 including $875 destination charge for the front-wheel drive model. Thats a $570 increase over the entry-level 2011MY SRX which starts from $35,490.
Apart from the new V6, other upgrades and changes in the SRX for 2012 include standard Bluetooth on all trim models, an optional heated steering wheel, a xenon Blue Metallic exterior paint option that will be available this fall, an all-ebony interior option with contrasting stitching, and a new 20-inch wheel finish option plus revised suspension on all models.
